What is FeedAdvisor?
FeedAdvisor is a way to identify content that may interest you based on aggregated subscription patterns, personalized for each user. FeedAdvisor offers the up to three results in each update email to readers, enabling them to quickly preview, subscribe to or reject the identified content.
FeedAdvisor solves this problem. It creates, tracks and searches the Subscription Web, based on correlated reading habits, with no more effort required than an email subscription to FeedBlitz powered content.
How does FeedAdvisor Work?
The algorithms are proprietary, but you here is a brief overview.
How may feeds will FeedAdvisor identify for me?
At most, the top three in each mail or preview, based on the FeedAdvisor algorithm. If you are already subscribing to one of these feeds then next one on the list is used. As you subscribe or decline FeedAdvisor content, the slots are used for the next in line. If there are no slots to fill based on the results of the FeedBlitz algorithm then no feeds are shown.
Does this go on for ever?
FeedAdvisor constantly examines the subscription patterns in the FeedBlitz subscription database. But relevance is important, so after a certain point FeedBlitz will not make recommendations if the feeds do not appear to have sufficient weight in the population of subscribers like you. So, eventually the recommendations may stop - until a new content provider gets enough weight to be potentially interesting to you based on the FeedAdvisor analysis.
What if I don't like a feed that FeedAdvisor finds?
The FeedAdvisor algorithm identifies emergent behaviors in the subscription patterns. A lot of the time it will produce useful and interesting results. But, if one of these results doesn't work for you, then you can simply tell FeedAdvisor not to recommend it again - it's a single click operation.
Are FeedAdvisor results advertising?
No - this isn't advertising. FeedAdvisor results are not paid for by anyone, nor can a position be "sponsored" or bought by a third party to improve it's "rank" in the FeedAdvisor results. It's entirely based on the observed organic behavior of active subscribers.
FeedBlitz and FeedAdvisor is not endorsing or recommending these feeds; instead what FeedAdvisor means is simply that a lot of people interested in what you are interested in are also interested in other things, you might want to check it out.
What Subscriptions are Included?
They all are included, but there is no personally identifiable information is revealed when the results are published. Only confirmed, live subscriptions are used; pending, deleted and unsubscribed subscriptions are not used during the FeedAdvisor evaluation.
The important part of the algorithm is how the results are generated. One-off subscriptions simply won't make it into the results for you, since they won't be relevant.
I'm not a FeedBlitz subscriber - How can I search the Subscription Web?
You can register and subscribe to any blog by email using FeedBlitz. Simply register, add your favorite feeds, preview and explore! You can use FeedAdvisor to find new content that's relevant to you, subscribe to it, and then keep your subscriptions in FeedBlitz or export them to a different aggregator using FeedBlitz's OPML export facility.
I'm a Blogger and don't have FeedBlitz - How do I get my Content into the Subscription Web?
Offer a FeedBlitz email subscription! You'll probably be very surprised at just how popular email update delivery becomes. Register here, add your content and put up a signup form. If you are using a third party service, you can easily transfer your subscribers.
Can I stop FeedAdvisor recommendations from showing up in emails to my subscribers?
Not at the moment. FeedAdvisor will probably boost your readership as it makes your content more visible to existing FeedBlitz users - users who are, by definition, interested in what you have to say, because that's how FeedAdvisor works. FeedAdvisor results are as unobtrusive as possible, placed at the bottom of each email with all the other user-specific administrative links.
Can I make FeedAdvisor available to non-FeedBlitz subscribers?
FeedAdvisor will results will be made available in a number of other ways that will enable their use in non-FeedBlitz content, such as RSS feeds and web sites, over the coming months. Stay tuned!
Yes - you can create and manage your content anywhere you like. All you need to use FeedAdvisor is a FeedBlitz login. To contribute to the Subscription Web all you have to do is offer an email update feature for your site or RSS feed, powered by FeedBlitz.
